My Greatest Discourse

Contend for the faith "once delivered" to the Ancients. The same gospel which saved Abraham must save us. "Keep the change" but give me the everlasting truth which does not change to suit the vagaries and foolish traditions and manipulations of mankind. "A key: That which is eternal is of God, and that which is not is of the devil." Joseph Smith. The gospel of the Ancients had power, enough power to turn rivers out of their course, and to translate two whole cities (Salem and Zion before the flood) and catch them along with their inhabitants into heaven. Any change (progress, progressiveism is of the devil, saith the Lord) which deviates from this glory is of that being (the devil) who possesses no glory, but leads to death. Gospel produces life and one cannot overdo life. "I am come that they might have life and that more abundantly". What is better than not tasting of death, but being translated as anciently? Progressive-ism be damned! Journal of Wilford Woodruff, September 17, 1854: "...Brother Pratt also thought that Adam was made of the dust of the earth; could not believe that Adam was our God or the Father of Jesus Christ. President Young said that He was, that He came from another world and made this, brought Eve with him, partook of the fruits of the earth, begat children and they were earthly and had mortal bodies. And if we were faithful, we should become Gods as He was. He told Brother Pratt to lay aside his philosophical reasoning, and get revelation from God to govern him and enlighten his mind more, and it would be a great blessing to lay aside his books and go into the canyons as some of the rest of us were doing and it would be better for him. He said his philoso¬phy injured him in a measure. Many good things were said by President Young—that we should grow up in revelation so that principle would govern every act of our lives. He had never found any difficulty in leading this people since Joseph's death."

Polemic Against Beck's Slobbering Love Affair with Cain, the Black Race

Against Beck's Slobbering Love Affair with Cain

NAACP formed in 1905 in reaction to DW Griffith's "Birth of a Nation", the highest grossing film of all time until "Jaws". Beck lied about DW Griffith receiving mentorship from Woodrow Wilson. Griffith was inspired and mentored concering reconstruction in the South, by his Uncle, a Colonel in the Confederate Cavalry under Stonewall Jackson. Spirit of abolitionists leading up to Civil War was the devil and discerned by Prophets Brigham Young and Joseph Smith, and is the foundation of liberlism manifested by Beck in fostering mixing with the black race of Cain. I challenge him to a debate over this liberalism, anytime, anywhere. 25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death. (Prov 16:25)

Joseph Smith on Slavery:

"After having expressed myself so freely upon this subject, I do not doubt, but those who have been forward in raising their voices against the South, will cry out against me as being uncharitable, unfeeling, unkind, and wholly unacquainted with the Gospel of Christ. It is my privilege then to name certain passages from the Bible, and examine the teachings of the ancients upon the matter as the fact is uncontrovertible that the first mention we have of slavery is found in the Holy Bible, pronounced by a man who was perfect in his generation, and walked with God. And so far from that prediction being averse to the mind of God, it remains as a lasting monument of the decree of Jehovah, to the shame and confusion of all who have cried out against the South, in consequence of their holding the sons of Ham in servitude. "And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren." "Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant" (Gen. 9:25, 26). Trace the history of the world from this notable event down to this day, and you will find the fulfillment of this singular prophecy. What could have been the design of the Almighty in this singular occurrence is not for me to say; but I can say, the curse is not yet taken off from the sons of Canaan, neither will be until it is affected by as great a power as caused it to come; and the people who interfere the least with the purposes of God in this matter, will come under the least condemnation before Him; and those who are determined to pursue a course, which shows an opposition, and a feverish restlessness against the decrees of the Lord, will learn, when perhaps it is too late for their own good, that God can do His own work, without the aid of those who are not dictated by His counsel. I must not pass ever a notice of the history of Abraham, of whom so much is spoken in the Scripture. If we can credit the account, God conversed with him from time to time, and directed him in the way he should walk, saying, I am the Almighty; walk before me, and be thou perfect." Paul says the Gospel was preached to this man. And it is further said, that he had sheep and oxen, men-servants and maid-servants, etc. From this I conclude, that if the principle had been an evil one, in the midst of the communications made to this holy man, he would have been instructed to that effect, and if he was instructed against holding men servants and maid-servants, he never ceased to do it; consequently must have incurred the displeasure of the Lord, and thereby lost His blessings; which was not the fact. Some may urge that the names man servant and maid-servant, only mean hired persons, who were at liberty to leave their masters or employers at any time. But we can easily settle this point, by turning to the history of Abraham's descendants, when governed by a law from the mouth of Jehovah Himself. I know that when an Israelite had been brought into servitude, in consequence of debt, or otherwise, at the seventh year he went from the task of his former master, or employer; but to no other people or nation was this granted in the law of Israel. And if after a man had served six years, he did not wish to be free, then the master was to bring him unto the judges-bore his ear with an awl, and that man was "to serve him forever." The conclusion I draw from this, is, that his people were led and governed by revelation, and if such a law was wrong, God only is to be blamed, and abolitionists are not responsible. Now, before proceeding any farther, I wish to ask one or two questions: Were the Apostles men of God, and did they preach the Gospel? I have no doubt that those who believe the Bible, will admit that they were; and that they also knew the mind and will of God concerning what they wrote to the churches, which they were instrumental in building up. This being admitted, the matter can be put to rest without much argument, if we look at a few items in the New Testament. Paul says: "Servants be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; not with eyeservice as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall be received of the Lord, whether he be bound or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven: neither is there respect of persons with him" (Eph. 6:5, 6, 7, 8, 9). Here is a lesson which might be profitable for all to learn; and the principle upon which the Church was anciently governed, is so plainly set forth, that an eye of truth might see and understand. Here certainly, are represented the master, and servant; and so far from instructions to the servant to leave his master, he is commanded to be in obedience, as unto the Lord; the master in turn, is required to treat him with kindness before God; understanding, at the same time, that he is to give an account. The hand of fellowship is not withdrawn from him in consequence of his having servants. The same writer, in his first epistle to Timothy, the sixth chapter, and the first five verses, says,-"Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and His doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputing of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself." This is so perfectly plain, that I see no need of comment. The Scripture stands for itself; and I believe that these men were better qualified to teach the will of God, than all the abolitionists in the world."

(Joseph Smith, History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7 vols., introduction and notes by B. H. Roberts, 2:, p.438-440)

Brigham Young's Answer to an Abolitionist (Address to Legislature as Governor after an aoblitionist harangue):

  "The principle of slavery I understand, at least I have self confidence enough, and confidence enough in God to believe I do. I believe still further that a great many others understand it as I do. A great portion of this community have been instructed, and have applied their minds to it, and as far as they have, they agree precisely in the principles of slavery. My remarks in the first place will be upon the cause of the introduction of slavery. Long ago mama Eve our good old mother Eve, partook of the forbidden fruit and this made a slave of her. Adam hated very much to have her taken out of the garden of Eden, and now our old daddy says I believe I will eat of the fruit and become a slave, too. This was the first introduction of slavery upon this earth; and there has been not a son or daughter of Adam from that day to this but what were slaves in the true sense of the word. That slavery will continue, until there is a people raised up upon the face of the earth who will contend for righteous principles, who will not only believe in, but operate, with every power and faculty given to them to help to establish the kingdom of God, to overcome the devil, and drive him from the earth, then will this curse be removed. This was the starting point of slavery. Again after Adam and Eve had partaken of the curse, we find they had two sons Cain and Abel, but which was the oldest I cannot positively say; but this I know, Cain was given more to evil practices than Abel, but whether he was the oldest or not matters not to me. Adam was commanded to sacrifice, and offer up his offerings to God, that placed him into the garden of Eden. Through the faith and obedience of Abel to his Heavenly Father, Cain became jealous of him, and he laid a plan to obtain all his flocks; for through his perfect obedience to Father, he obtained more blessings than Cain; consequently he took it into his heart to put Abel out of this mortal existence. After the deed was done, the Lord inquired to Abel, and made Cain own what he had done with him. Now says the grand father, I will not destroy the seed of Michael and his wife; and Cain I will not kill you, nor suffer any one to kill you, but I will put a mark upon you. What is that mark? You will see it on the countenance of every African you ever did see upon the face of the earth, or ever will see. Now I tell you what I know: when the mark was put upon Cain, Abel's children were in all probability young; the Lord told Cain that he should not receive the blessings of the Priesthood nor his seed, until the redemption of the earth. If there never was a prophet, or apostle of Jesus Christ that spoke it before, I tell you, this people that are commonly called Negroes are the children of old Cain. I know they are; I know that they cannot bear rule in the Priesthood, for the curse on them was to remain upon them, until the residue of the posterity of Michael and his wife receive the blessings, the seed of Cain would have received had they not been cursed; and hold the keys of the priesthood, until the times of the restitution shall come, and the curse be wiped off from the earth, and from Michael's seed. Then Cain's seed will be had in remembrance, and the time come when that curse should be wiped off. Now then in the kingdom of God on the earth, a man who has the African blood in him cannot hold one jot nor tittle of priesthood; Why? because they are the true eternal principles the Lord Almighty has ordained, and who can help it? Men cannot; the angels cannot; and all the powers of earth and hell cannot take it off, but thus saith the Eternal I am, what I am, I take it off at my pleasure, and not one particle of power can that posterity of Cain have, until the time comes that says he will have it taken away. That time will come when they will have the privilege of all we have the privilege of, and more. In the kingdom of God on the earth, the Africans cannot hold one particle of power in Government. The subjects, the rightful servants of the residue of the children of Adam, and the residue of the children through the benign influence of the Spirit of the Lord have the privilege of seeing to the posterity of Cain; inasmuch as it is the Lord's will they should receive the spirit of God by baptism; and that is the end of their privilege; and there is not power on earth to give them any more power. You talk of the dark skin, I never saw a white man on earth. I have seen persons whose hair came pretty nigh being white, but to talk about white skins it is something entirely unknown, though some skins are fairer than others; look at the black eyes and the jet black hair, we often see upon men and women who are called white; there is no such things as white folks. We are the children of Adam, who receive the blessings, and that is enough for us if we are not quite white. But let me tell you further. Let my seed mingle with the seed of Cain, that brings the curse upon me, and upon my generations--we will reap the same rewards with Cain. In the priesthood I will tell you what it will do. Were the children of God to mingle their seed with the seed of Cain it would not only bring the curse of being deprived of the power of the Priesthood upon themselves but they entail it upon their children after them, and they cannot get rid of it. If a man in an unguarded moment should commit such a transgression, if he would walk up and say cut off my head, and kill man, woman and child, it would do a great deal towards atoning for the sin. Would this be to curse them? No, it would be a blessing to them--it would do them good that they might be saved with their brethren. A man would shudder should they hear us talk about killing folk, but it is one of the greatest blessings to some to kill them, although the true principles of it are not understood. *** Again to the subject before us; as to the men bearing rule; not one of the children of old Cain have one particle of right to bear rule in Government affairs from first to last; they have no business there. This privilege was taken from them by their own transgressions, and I cannot help it; and should you or I bear rule we ought to do it with dignity and honour before God. I am as much opposed to the principle of slavery as any man in the present acceptation or usage of the term; it is abused. I am opposed to abusing that which God has decreed--to take a blessing and make a curse of it. It is a great blessing to the seed of Adam to have the seed of Cain for servants, but those they serve should use them with all the heart and feeling, as they would use their own children, and their compassion should reach over them, and round about them, and treat them as kindly, and with that humane feeling necessary to be shown to mortal beings of the human species. Under these circumstances their blessings in life [135] are greater in proportion than those who have to provide the bread and dinner for them. We know there is a portion of inhabitants of the earth who dwell in Asia that are Negroes, and said to be Jews. The blood of Judah has not only mingled almost with all nations, but also with the blood of Cain, and they have mingled their seeds together. These Negro Jews may keep up all the outer ordinances of the Jewish religion; they may have their sacrifices, and they may perform all the religious ceremonies any people on earth could perform, but let me tell you, that the day they consented to mingle their seed with Canaan, the priesthood was taken away from Judah, and that portion of Judah's seed will never get any rule, or blessings of the priesthood until Cain gets it. Let this Church which is called the kingdom of God on the earth; we will summons the first presidency, the twelve, the high counsel, the bishopric, and all the elders of Israel, suppose we summons them to appear here, and here declare that it is right to mingle our seed, with the black race of Cain, that they shall come in with us and be partakers with us of all the blessings God has given to us. On that very day, and hour we should do so, the priesthood is taken from this Church and kingdom and God leaves us to our fate. The moment we consent to mingle with the seed of Cain the Church must go to destruction--we should receive the curse which has been placed upon the seed of Cain, and never more be numbered with the children of Adam who are heirs to the priesthood until that curse be removed. Therefore, I will not consent for one moment to have an African dictate me or any brethren with regard to Church or State Government. I may vary in my views from others, and they may think I am foolish in the things I have spoken, and think that they know more than I do, but I know I know more than they do. If the Africans cannot bear rule in the Church of God, what business have they to bear rule in the State and Government affairs of this territory or any others?
"In the Government affairs of states and territories and kingdoms by right God should govern. He should rule over nations, and control kings. If we suffer the devil to rule over us, we shall not accomplish any good. I want the Lord to rule and be our Governor and Dictator, and we are the boys to execute. * * * Consequently, I will not consent for a moment to have the children of Cain rule me nor my brethren. No, it is not right. But say some, is there anything of this kind in the Constitution, the U.S. has given us? If you will allow me the privilege telling right out, it is none of their damned business what we do or say here. What we do it is for them to sanction, and then for us to say what we like about it. It is written right out in the constitution, "that every free white male inhabitant above the age of twenty-one years", etc. My mind is the same today as when we were pouring over that constitution; any light upon the subject is the same; my judgment is the same, only a little more so. Perhaps I have said enough upon this subject. I have given you the true principles and doctrine. No man can vote for me or my brethren in this territory who has not the privilege of acting in Church affairs. Every man, and woman, and child in this territory are citizens; to say the contrary is all nonsense to me. The Indians are citizens, the Africans are citizens, and the Jews that come from Asia, that are almost entirely of the blood of Cain. It is our duty to take care of them, and administer to them in all the acts of humanity, and kindness. They shall have the right of citizenship, but shall not have the right to dictate in Church and State matters. The abolitionists of the east have cirest [sic] them, and their whole argument is calculated to darken counsel, as it was here yesterday. As for our bills passing here, we may lay the foundation for what? for men to come here from Africa or elsewhere, by hundreds of thousands. When these men come here from the Islands, are they going to hold offices in Government? No. It is for men who understand the knowledge of Government affairs to hold such offices, and on the other hand, make provisions for them to plow, and to reap, and enjoy all that human beings can enjoy, and we protect them in it. Do we know how to ameliorate the condition of these people? We do. Suppose that five thousand of them came from the Pacific Islands, and ten or fifteen thousands from Japan, or from China, not one soul of them would know how to vote for a Government officer. They, therefore, ought not in the first thing have anything to do in Government affairs. What the Gentiles are doing we are consenting to do. What we are trying to do today is to make the Negro equal with us in all our privilege. My voice shall be against all the day long. I shall not consent for one moment. I will call them a counsel. I say I will not consent for one moment for you to lay a plan to bring a curse upon this people. It shall not be while I am here." (Brigham Young Addresses, Ms d 1234, Box 48, folder 3, dated Feb. 5, 1852, located in the LDS Church Historical Department, Salt Lake City, Utah)

To briefly summarize the teachings of Brigham Young--both as President of the Church and as a legislative governor of the Territory of Utah--here are a few portions of his declarations concerning the Canaanites:

PRIESTHOOD RESTRICTION

It is their [Negroes] privilege to live so as to enjoy many of the blessings which attend obedience to the first principles of the Gospel, though they are not entitled to the Priesthood. (J.D. 2:185)

* * *

Any man having one drop of the seed of Cain in him cannot receive the priesthood. (Wilford Woodruff, p. 351)

* * *

The Lord had cursed Cain's seed with blackness and prohibited them the Priesthood. (Journal History, Feb. 13, 1849)

[138]
I know that they [Negroes] cannot bear rule in the Priesthood, for the curse on them was to remain upon them until the residue of the posterity of Michael and his wife receive the blessings. (Feb. 5, 1852)

NO RIGHT TO RULE

In the kingdom of God on the earth, the Africans cannot hold one particle of power in Government.... Not one of the children of old Cain have one particle of right to hear rule in Government affairs from first to last; they have no business there. This privilege was taken from them by their own transgressions (Brigham Young's talk to the Legislature, Feb. 5, 1852)
* * *

Therefore, I will not consent for one moment to have an African dictate me or any brethren with regard to Church or State Government. (Ibid.)

* * *

We should not...elevate them, as some seem disposed, to an equality with those whom nature and nature's God has indicated to be their masters, their superiors.... (Ibid.)

MIXING RACES PROHIBITED

Were the children of God to mingle their seed with the seed of Cain, it would not only bring the curse of being deprived of the power of the Priesthood upon themselves, but they entail it upon their children after them, and they cannot get rid of it.... (Feb. 5, 1852)

* * *

[139]
If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so. (J. D. 10:110)

* * *

...let me tell you, that the day they (Jews) consented to mingle their seed with Canaan, the priesthood was taken away from Judah, and that portion of Judah's seed will never get any rule, or blessings of the priesthood until Cain gets it. (Feb. 5, 1852)

* * *

The moment we consent to mingle with the seed of Cain the Church must go to destruction--we should receive the curse which has been placed upon the seed of Cain, and never more be numbered with the children of Adam who are heirs to the priesthood until that curse he removed. (Ibid.)

WHEN CURSE TO BE REMOVED

The Lord told Cain that he should not receive the blessings of the Priesthood nor his seed, until the last of the posterity of Abel had received the priesthood, until the redemption of the earth. (Feb. 5, 1852)
* * *

And if he [a Canaanite] continues faithful until Abel's race is satisfied with his blessings, then may the race of Cain receive a fullness of the priesthood.... (Des. News, Apr. 3, 1852)

* * *

That mark will be seen upon the face of every Negro upon the face of the earth; and it is the decree of God that that mark shall remain upon the seed of Cain until the seed of Abel shall be redeemed. (History of Wilford Woodruff, p. 551)
* * *

When all the other children of Adam have had the privilege of receiving the Priesthood, and of coming into the kingdom of God, and of being redeemed from the four quarters of the earth, and have received their resurrection from the dead, then it will be time enough to remove the curse from Cain and his posterity. (J.D. 2:142-43)

* * *

When the residue of the family of Adam come up and receive their blessings, then the curse will be removed from the seed of Cain.... (J.D. 7:291)

* * *

When all the rest of the children have received their blessings in the Holy Priesthood, then that curse will be removed from the seed of Cain. (J.D. 11:272)
* * *

They never can hold the Priesthood or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof. (J.D. 7:290)

* * *

The blessings which belonged to Abel, descended to his posterity; and until the blessings of Abel's birthright are fully received, secured, and realized, by his [Abel's] descendants, Cain and his posterity must wear the mark which God put upon them. (Des. News, Apr. 3, 1852)

* * * * *

In conclusion, we must assume that the following is true of President Brigham Young:

1. He spoke as a prophet.

2. His clear and continuous explanation of the Priesthood restriction was based on the mind and will of God.

3. His concept of restrictions on governmental activity was as valid as those pertaining to Priesthood.

4. Because of his close acquaintance and experiences with Joseph Smith, he was continuing and emphasized the doctrines and teachings of Joseph Smith.

5. His teachings were in agreement with the scriptures and former prophets of Israel.

Men must either accept the teachings and instructions of Brigham Young as true, and that he was acting as a prophet; or else they can assume that he did not know what he was talking about. If they consider his teachings as "immoral nonsense" (as modern Mormon Sterling McMurrin--100 years later--has declared), then there can be no validity to the teachings of any succeeding president. On the other hand, if Brigham Young was inspired and if he was a prophet, then all who have turned against his teachings are in rebellion against God and His servants, and will be punished accordingly.

More on AntiChrists

Recording played of Van Hale denying historicity of the Book of Mormon, after I played recording of my call to his show in which he denied this very thing. All liberals live in a fake reality, one which is plastic, malleable, "perception is reality", no absolute truth, therefore "truth" is whatever the majority is made to believe by the propaganda techniques of Goebbels, etc. AntiChrists have to deceive themselves into this false reality before they can deceive others. Testimony of "Utahnite", an anti-Mormon called upon who has had similar experience with Mr. Hale. Conflict between scholars who claim primacy and the Priesthood, which functions independent of the Church as anciently. "If the claims of the Church are to be understood as story rather than history, then authority in the Church will eventually pass from the Brethren to the scholars, just as it happened in ancient Israel and in the early Christian Church. For if the scholars know the "objective truth" about the Book of Mormon through their research while the "benighted Brethren" are still struggling under a false perspective and with archaic interpretations, then modern revelation and authority are just part of the myth, part of our "salvation history," and we, like the ancient Church, will ultimately abandon the idea of living prophets and turn to scholars for the "truth." God help us if it comes to that. " (Monte S. Nyman and Charles D. Tate, Jr. "Of singular importance here is the matter of who is creating whom. Are we the children of God, or is he the child of our perceptions? Is it for us to refashion God so that we might not be embarrassed by him as our own intellectual fashions change? Such is the position of many liberal theologians today. They argue for a historical or progressive revelation of the divine nature that ignores the plain meaning of the language of scripture." (D&C 20:17). Joseph Fielding McConkie

K-TALK LDS Apologist Van Hale Denies
Book of Mormon Historicity

"I'm not persuaded that the Book of Mormon is a translation of an ancient history." - Van Hale September 18, 2005

Van Hale hosts his own Salt Lake area radio program called "Mormon Miscellaneous." On February 6th, 2005 Mr. Hale's guest was Simon Southerton, author of "Losing a Lost Tribe: Native Americans, DNA, and the Mormon Church.

During the two-hour radio broadcast, Van Hale issued a public statement, in which he declared that he could not accept the Book of Mormon is real history about real people.

Transcript of Van Hale's Broadcast Exchange with Caller:

This is a transcript of the Van Hale interview of one caller immediately following his "Inspired Fiction" statement broadcast on K-TALK Radio, February 6, 2005.

Van Hale: Okay, let's go to a caller. You're on the air.

Caller: Oh yeah, uh, the whole thing though… about whether... Can you hear me now?

Val Hale: Yes, uh hu.

Caller: (Muffled) Alright, the whole thing is that you have hard evidence. You have the Book of Mormon plates. I mean the golden plates. If it wasn't an actual history, then why would you have the golden plates? And then why would you have the angel Moroni bringing the golden plates, or showing Joseph Smith where they were hidden if it wasn't a hard history? It has to be a history of the ancient people who lived here.

Van Hale: Um, yes, um, I'm well familiar with your point of view and thinking on that. The angel, I personally believe that Joseph Smith was uh... visited by an angel and that an angel superintended the production of the Book of Mormon. The uh, uh, I don't know, maybe it's… it's maybe a… a crude thing to say but uh... the uh... plates uh... could be explained in a number of ways, in several, in several different ways that occur to me. One would be in the area of special effects. The whole idea of the presentation of something in a very realistic fashion is something that we're we in encounter all the time. We see all every day of our lives. We see uh... things where millions of dollars have been spent to try to present something in such a realistic seeming way that we don't even thing about whether it's historical, actual or whatever. We're simply watching it and paying attention to it and uh, uh... enjoying the message or being persuaded by the message.

Caller: Well then if you're... if that's the case if you're saying that it could be a novel then you're also saying that the Bible could be a novel and that Jesus Christ was all... he was was a figment of God's imagination and that he gave it to the people so he could convert them to the truth. I don't, you know, the whole history of the Bible is based on actual, literal things that happened

Van Hale: Well…

Caller: There were prophets of God and there were prophets of God in the…old… in the Book of Mormon. They actually lived and they left, they left a message for the people and there has been artifacts found all over the United States of uh…an ancient people who lived here

Van Hale: Uh hu.

Caller: And died in warfare and there are mounds, the burial mounds all over the East Coast and there are all kinds of evidences and so just because you have really haven't delved into the fact that these evidences do exist doesn't mean that uh the whole Book of Mormon is a book of fiction.

Van Hale: Well, you're making a number of false assumptions first of all uh... I spent thirty years uh thinking, delving into these different issues looking at different arguments and evidences…

Caller: Have you looked at artifacts?

Van Hale: Well of course.

Caller: The Artifacts. Actual pieces of uh of uh... helmets and swords and all kinds of things that were…have been found on the American Continent.

Van Hale: Well, I, I think that you uh substantially exaggerate uh the material, but that's not my point. My point is that first of all I want to state that I don't… I… I've never asserted that the Book of Mormon is a novel. It's not a novel in my opinion. Want to hold for a minute? I got to…

Caller: I'll hold.

(music)

Van Hale: Okay well, I guess, uh, I misunderstood what was happening there but we're back … uh going back to your comments caller. I, my, my point and this is what seems no matter how much I say it it's distorted out of uh… it's uh... distorted. What I believe is that the ultimate purpose of the Book of Mormon has nothing to do with history. It's not about history. It's not what it's for. It's not to teach history.

We don't have that great commitment in our LDS faith to history anyway. I uh… I don't know that much about the history of Africa uh …(caller tries to interrupt) there's no driving force in our faith that that they'll find out about the history of Africa. The fact is that the Book of Mormon and the purpose of the Book of Mormon was not to teach history, it was to lead… uh... people to whom it was given into a spiritual experience which would convert them, change their lives, and that is, that is, that has always been… uh acknowledged as the ultimate purpose of the Book of Mormon. Not the teaching of history.

Caller: Well, I have to agree with that, but we have to look at also the prophesies and when you look at the prophesies in the Bible and the prophesies in the Book of Mormon you can see that they're coming true. I just don't think that the Lord would say an important book like the Book of Mormon… and dream up, dream up a book of fiction for people to …uh convert. When it was actually the truth.

Van Hale: Uh hu.

Caller: It was the truth. And that's…

Van Hale: Well that's … As I said in my statement that I believe that the Book of Mormon is best read as a history and that's the best approach and that if you read it like that and, and um… I have no problem, no interest in trying to convince you that the Book of Mormon is not a translation of a book of ancient history. I simply... I have been questioned a number of times about my point of view in uh doing my program and elsewhere so I decided to finally that I would make a, write a, statement in which I could uh… identify what my point of view is.

Caller: But I mean if you also go back, and you go back, and talk about the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve as being an allegory or a story rather than a real fact.

Van Hale: Yes…

Caller: I mean where… I'm sure two thousand years from now when people read about the early Mormons is someone going to come in and say, "That's really fiction" Because, uh… you know… I …You have to look at the hard facts. It's there. It happened.

Van Hale: Well, I, I agree with you. I think that we need to look at the hard facts but what… what I conclude from looking at them are is uh different than your conclusion and that's... I'm…you know, I'm simply saying you uh obviously believe that the Book of Mormon is… uh a divinely inspired book. I think it's a book of scripture. I believe that to and that uh there are different ways, different approaches to it and I'm not in the least bit interested in dissuade you from your point of view.

I think it's highly unlikely that you will dissuade me from my point of view. I've just, you know, this is a point of view that's developed over a number of years of thought and study and I uh… uh my consuming hobbies since the time I was nineteen has been my faith. The history, and you know, and I immerse myself in that. That's what I do. I've been doing this radio program for 24 years and talking to people about different ideas and it's not like I haven't thought about these things. It's just that I've come to a different conclusion that you have, and I have, you know, I'm fine with your conclusion. I have no uh, no uh reason to try and dissuade you from it.

Caller: Well, okay, I see now, that's fine. I just I just I just don't see how you can ignore hard things like … I mean, if Moroni for example, was an act of fiction why would he then appear to Joseph Smith and you know and bring the Book of Mormon, bring the Book of Mormon back… that's just… it's ludicrous to think that, that there really that there never was a Moroni. If there was never a Moroni, if he was an act of fiction then he would have never come back and appeared to Joseph Smith like he did. Ha, you know, that's just… That just doesn't make sense. But anyway, I respect your opinion. I mean that's your opinion.

Caller: Ok, thank you.

Van Hale: Alright. Bye

Van Hale: Okay, and of course that's… that's what happens. People have firm views and they've developed along different lines and my whole point, huh huh, in my position is that um Latter Day Saints are diverse, a diverse people and the diversity is growing and that I think that there is uh room based upon our basic core beliefs that I had outlined in my statement. There is room for Latter Day Saints to believe that the Book of Mormon is an authentic divinely inspired book of scripture without making a commitment that it is a um… a translation of ancient history. And that's where I find myself.

I think that there are other Latter Day Saints who subscribe to something similar to this point of view. And I uh, I think the important thing we agree upon is that it's a divinely inspired book. The question of whether there was a Lehi who had a dream is for me not an issue. The question is, is there value in the.. in the dream? I again, as I was saying in my statement I think, I think, the best way to read the Book of Mormon is not as a history and not be dissecting it.

If you want to get the message of it, to get a grasp of it, that is if you want to read it as a real intent that's outlined in Moroni, Chapter 10, verses 4 and 5, I think the that real intent is to read the book and try and grasp what the book's telling you. And in the course of that millions have found themselves inspired… uh and converted to the LDS faith. Not converted to ideas about the ancient history of ancient America because you know we don't, you know. It's not really pertinent to our faith. It just isn't. Well, what is pertinent to our faith is what we are doing here now.

Please notice that Mr. Hale never once refers to revelation as the source for truth, not books as stated by Brigham Young:

Wilford Woodruff; Dec 16, 1857.

"...Brother Pratt also thought that Adam was made of the dust of the earth, could not believe that Adam was our God or the Father of Jesus Christ.  President young said that he was, that He came from another world, and made this, and brought Eve with him, partook of the fruits of the earth, begat children and they were earthly and  had mortal bodies.  And if we were faithful we should become Gods as he was.  He told

Brother Pratt to lay aside his philosophical reasoning, and get revelation from God to govern him and enlighten his mind more, and it would be a great blessing to lay aside his books and go into the canyons as some of the rest of us were doing..."  Journal of Wilford Woodfruff; Sept 17, 1854.

Every one of these professes to be competent to try his neighbor's spirit, but no one can try his own, and what is the reason? Because they have not a key to unlock, no rule wherewith to measure, and no criterion whereby they can test it. Could any one tell the length, breadth or height of a building without a rule? test the quality of metals without a criterion, or point out the movements of the planetary systems, without a knowledge of astronomy? Certainly not; and if such ignorance as this is manifested about a spirit of this kind, who can describe an angel of light? If Satan should appear as one in glory, who can tell his color, his signs, his appearance, his glory-or what is the manner of his manifestation? Who can drag into daylight and develop the hidden mysteries of the false spirits that so frequently are made manifest among the Latter-day Saints? We answer that no man can do this without the Priesthood, and having a knowledge of the laws by which spirits are governed; for as "no man knows the things of God, but by the Spirit of God," so no man knows the spirit of the devil, and his power and influence, but by possessing intelligence which is more than human, and having unfolded through the medium of the Priesthood the mysterious operations of his devices; without knowing the angelic form, the sanctified look and gesture, and the zeal that is frequently manifested by him for the glory of God, together with the prophetic spirit, the gracious influence, the godly appearance, and the holy garb, which are so characteristic of his proceedings and his mysterious windings.
A man must have the discerning of spirits before he can drag into daylight this hellish influence and unfold it unto the world in all its soul-destroying, diabolical, and horrid colors; for nothing is a greater injury to the children of men than to be under the influence of a false spirit when they think they have the Spirit of God. Thousands have felt the influence of its terrible power and baneful effects. Long pilgrimages have been undertaken, penances endured, and pain, misery and ruin have followed in their train; nations have been convulsed, kingdoms overthrown, provinces laid waste, and blood, carnage and desolation are habiliments in which it has been clothed. . . .
. . . all nations have been deceived, imposed upon and injured through the mischievous effects of false spirits.

   (Joseph Smith, Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Alma P. Burton, p.112-113)

(Revelation Is Necessary to Detect the Work of the Devil    )

   (Revelation Is Necessary to Detect the Work of the Devil    1)

As we have noticed before, the great difficulty lies in the ignorance of the nature of spirits, of the laws by which they are governed, and the signs by which they may be known; if it requires the Spirit of God to know the things of God; and the spirit of the devil can only be unmasked through that medium, then it follows as a natural consequence that unless some person or persons have a communication, or revelation from God, unfolding to them the operation of the spirit, they must eternally remain ignorant of these principles; for I contend that if one man cannot understand these things but by the Spirit of God, ten thousand men cannot; it is alike out of the reach of the wisdom of the learned, the tongue of the eloquent, the power of the mighty. And we shall at last have to come to this conclusion, whatever we may think of revelation, that without it we can neither know nor understand anything of God, or the devil; and however unwilling the world may be to acknowledge this principle, it is evident from the multifarious creeds and notions concerning this matter that they understand nothing of this principle, and it is equally as plain that without a divine communication they must remain in ignorance. The world always mistook false prophets for true ones, and those that were sent of God, they considered to be false prophets, and hence they killed, stoned, punished and imprisoned the true prophets, and these had to hide themselves "in deserts and dens, and caves of the earth," and though the most honorable men of the earth, they banished them from their society as vagabonds, whilst they cherished, honored and supported knaves, vagabonds, hypocrites, impostors, and the basest of men.

   (Joseph Smith, Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Alma P. Burton, p.114)

   (Men Chosen and Upheld By God Can Discern Evil Spirits   1)

A man must have the discerning of spirits, as we before stated, to understand these things, and how is he to obtain this gift if there are no gifts of the Spirit? And how can these gifts be obtained without revelation? "Christ ascended into heaven, and gave gifts to men; and he gave some Apostles, and some Prophets, and some Evangelists, and some Pastors and Teachers. And how were Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Teachers and Evangelists chosen? By prophecy (revelation) and by laying on of hands:-by a divine communication, and a divinely appointed ordinance-through the medium of the Priesthood, organized according to the order of God, by divine appointment. The Apostles in ancient times held the keys of this Priesthood-of the mysteries of the kingdom of God, and consequently were enabled to unlock and unravel all things pertaining to the government of the Church, the welfare of society, the future destiny of men, and the agency, power and influence of spirits; for they could control them at pleasure, bid them depart in the name of Jesus, and detect their mischievous and mysterious operations when trying to palm themselves upon the Church in a religious garb, and militate against the interest of the Church and spread truth. We read that they "cast out devils in the name of Jesus," and when a woman possessing the spirit of divination, cried before Paul and Silas, "these are the servants of the Most High God that show unto us the way of salvation," they detected the spirit. And although she spake favorable of them, Paul commanded the spirit to come out of her, and saved themselves from the opprobrium that might have been heaped upon their heads, through an alliance with her, in the development of her wicked principles, which they certainly would have been charged with, if they had not rebuked the evil spirit.

   (Joseph Smith, Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Alma P. Burton, p.114)

Men of God Have Detected the False Spirits in Former Times
(Men of God Have Detected the False Spirits in Former Times    )

   (Men of God Have Detected the False Spirits in Former Times    1)

A power similar to this existed through the medium of the Priesthood in different ages. Moses could detect the magician's power, and show that he [himself] was God's servant-he knew when he was upon the mountain (through revelation) that Israel was engaged in idolatry; he could develop the sin of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, detect witches and wizards in their proceedings, and point out the true prophets of the Lord. Joshua knew how to detect the man who had stolen the wedge of gold and the Babylonish garment. Michaiah could point out the false spirit by which the four hundred prophets were governed; and if his advice had been taken, many lives would have been spared. (2 Chronicles 18.) Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and many other prophets possessed this power. Our Savior, the Apostles, and even the members of the Church were endowed with this gift, for, says Paul, (1 Corinthians 12), "To one is given the gift of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discerning of spirits." All these proceeded from the same Spirit of God, and were the gifts of God. The Ephesian church were enabled by this principle, "to try those that said they were apostles, and were not, and found them liars." (Revelation 2:2.)

   (Joseph Smith, Discourses of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Alma P. Burton, p.115)

"We have no right to take the theories of men, however scholarly, however learned, and set them up as a standard, and try to make the Gospel bow down to them; making of them an

iron bedstead upon which God's truth, if not long enough, must be stretched out, or if too long, must be chopped off-anything to make it fit into the system of men's thoughts and theories! On the contrary," he instructed the Saints, "we should hold up the Gospel as the standard of truth, and measure thereby the theories and opinions of men." (Robert L. Millet, The Power of the Word: Saving Doctrines from the Book of

Mormon, p.293-294)

We have enough and to spare, at present in these mountains, of schools where young infidels (antiChrists) are made because the teachers are so tender-footed that they dare not mention the principles of the gospel to their pupils, but have no hesitancy in introducing into the classroom the theories of Huxley, of Darwin, or of Miall...this course I am resolutely and uncompromisingly opposed to, and I hope to see the day when the doctrines of the gospel will be taught in all our schools, when the revelation of the Lord will be our texts, and our books will be written and manufactured by ourselves and in our own midst.. (Brigham Young, Letters of Brigham Young to His Sons, p. 200.)

"The existence and proof of these ancient people (Michigan Tablets) and their teachings prove that those who have labeled or allowed these artifacts to be labeled phony, are they themselves phony. This includes professors and teachers of higher learning in our educational systems, heads of the Smithsonian Institute, Prophets, Seers, Revelators, leaders, professors and teachers within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, as well as others of other organizations." Duane Ericson

"Beware of the leaven of the pharisees"

As long as men of science ignore the light of truth and have no faith in the Divine Creator, they will search the hard way to find out the works of the Lord and will formulate false theories which may prove both harmful and pernicious in that they will guide their fellows who accept them away from the revealed plan leading to eternal life.

Unfortunately most scientists depend entirely upon their own intelligence and wisdom without a thought of divine aid. It is said repeatedly that scientists do not take God into their reckoning in the search of truth. This is an unfortunate condition, for if they were men of prayer and faith, seeking divine help they would come to the truth more readily and would avoid the many pitfalls of false hypotheses.

(Joseph Fielding Smith, Man, His Origin and Destiny, p.21-22)

Jacob 4:8
8 Behold, great and marvelous are the works of the Lord. How unsearchable are the depths of the mysteries of him; and it is impossible that man should find out all his ways. And no man knoweth of his ways save it be revealed unto him; wherefore, brethren, despise not the revelations of God.

1 Cor 2:11
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

2 Tim 4:3-4
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

JST 1 Cor 2:11
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, except he has the Spirit of God.

Matt 16:4-12
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, [It is] because we have taken no bread.
8 [Which] when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
9 Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake [it] not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12 Then understood they how that he bade [them] not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Denying the Historicity of the Book of Mormon is denial of the Holy Ghost, saith the Lord.

"...the undergirding assumption of those who question the historicity in whole or in part-is a denial of the supernatural, a refusal to admit the role of divine intervention in the form of revelation and miracles and predictive prophecy. It is the tendency, unfortunately, to adopt uncritically the secular presuppositions and methodologies of those who have neither faith nor direction." Stephen E. Robinson

He told Brother Pratt to lay aside his philosophical reasoning, and get revelation from God to govern him and enlighten his mind more, and it would be a great blessing to lay aside his books and go into the canyons as some of the rest of us were doing..."  Journal of Wilford Woodfruff; Sept 17, 1854.

       When a man goes about prophesying, and commands men to obey his teachings, he must either be a true or false prophet.

·         10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. (New Testament | Galatians 1:10 - 12)
