223 Therefor by this key, saith the Lord, the devil may be detected even though he should appear unto thee as an angel of light.
224 And how much less, saith the Lord, are your Presidencies than an angel of light?
225 And how much less are they than Brigham, Heber and John Taylor?
226 Yea, thus saith the Lord, think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am come not to destroy, but to fulfill.
227 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall not pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

230 for has the millenium, even the thousand years of peace, hath it passed, or hath it been fulfilled?
231 I the Lord thy God, who maketh the heavens and the earth and set them in their proper frame and orbits say unto you, O man, nay.
232 Hath the earth received her resurrection and her final reward?
233 I say unto thee, O man, who walketh about in darkness at noon-day, nay.
234 Have all the sons and daughters of Adam received of the blessings which shall be theirs?
235 I say unto thee, O man, nay.
236 And it is not until all these things, even that which hath been spoken by the mouths of my servants the prophets be fulfilled that the Sons of Cain, the first murderer, shall receive of the blessings of the Priesthood of the Son of God, and then they shall be resurrected to receive of that which hath been appointed unto them from before the foundation of the world.
237 For the blood of righteous Abel did cry up
unto me, even in these things.
238 And it is because of unbelief that this great wickedness hath come among you, even at this time.
239 Whosoever shall therefor break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: But whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
240 And how much greater, saith the Lord, is my servant, Art Bulla, than those whom ye sustain as your Presidencies?
241 For the keys, even of the Kingdom of God have been taken, even from them, and given unto him who shall do my will, and believed in my words and my works from before the foundation of the world, saith the Lord God of Israel, even unto my servant have they been given, that he may prove unto you, O man, that I the Lord thy God am the same, yesterday, today, and forever.
242 For, saith the Lord, there is no agency except their own wicked hearts of unbelief, in your prophets at all, but they, even they, are as wood and stone.
243 Therefor it is, O Israel, that for this idolotry, that ye shall be cut off from under the heavens, if it so be that ye continue on in the stubborness and rebellion of your hearts.
244 Therefore mock not, for all shall be consumed at that day, and he who fights against Zion shall be damned and burned.
245 Therefor beware that ye raise not your heel against mine annointed, and judge no longer after appearances, for do I not cover the heavens with sackcloth and make the rivers to dry up that the fish stink, that ye may know of my power?
246 And I will prove them and see who is acquainted with my voice.
247 For my voice is my spirit.
248 And whoso hearkeneth unto the voice of my spirit, these are they who inherit Celestial glory with me, saith the Lord.
249 And all those who are not acquainted with my voice are not of me.
250 And I will prove them, saith the Lord, and I will prove them, whether they shall be obedient unto whatsoever I shall command them.
251 And how shall I command except by my voice, saith the Lord?
252 And again I say that my voice is my Spirit.
253 Therefor, whosoever is unacquainted with my spirit, how shall they obtain the knowledge wherein that they may know how that they should act according to my will, or as is commonly spoken of, work?
254 For if they be not acquainted with my voice, then their works are not according to the commandments given through the power of my voice, and every man shall be judged according to his works, that thereby they will be accounted of, for their thoughts, their hearts, and their outward acts of the flesh, and from these things, they shall be given their respective opportunities and blessings and cursings in the eternities to come.
255 And wo be unto the disobedient, for where I am, there they cannot come, saith the Lord.
256 Therefor give heed concerning yourselves, for even so, will I judge you when you shall come into the presence of mine annointed to be evaluated and judged for the deeds of the flesh, whether in the heart or manifested outwardly.
257 Thereby, O ye hypocrits, and liars, ye shall be found out.
258 Therefor, Wo!
259 Wo! be unto those who are found to be thus, for shall they escape my awful wrath in that day, saith the Lord?
260 Nay, but they shall be destroyed, saith the Lord, that their esteeming of sacred things as a thing of naught, shall no more come up unto me as the abominations of the past which abominations caused mine anger to be kindled against the inhabitants of the whole earth.
261 For will I that the earth be polluted any
more by them, saith the Lord?
262 Nay, for I will cleanse the earth by fire in that day that I may discover their iniquities no more.
263 And the earth in this day shall be made as a paradise for them that remain.
264 Even so, I have said it by the mouth of my servant in whom I am well pleased and surely his words also shall come to pass, for by the mouth of my servants of by mine own mouth, saith the Lord God, it is the same.

21 I saw another, who seemed to be a very high military officer who arose and said: "I will go down to yonder earth and surely I will bring all your children back to you so none of them shall be lost.
22 "The plan of the first was accepted as being the only sure plan for an exaltation.
23 The plan of the second was rejected with great kindness; but the second was not satisfied; and while the first stood in great humility by the side of the Father, the second with many who stood in with him, went about among the Heavenly hosts to advocate the plan, that was put forth as the rights of the second.
24 This one was Lucifer, a son of the morning, for many had been with the Father for countless ages, and learned their lessons well, and he had been no dull scholar.
25 Finally Lucifer openly rebelled against the Father and the Son, and six other mighty ones who stood faithful with them and declared, "I will have it my way.
26 " I saw the faithful ones gather around the Father and the Son, and Lucifer's workers gathered around him, when one of the notable ones, who was called Michael, arose and said, "We will decide the contest.
27 " It seemed that a platform was extended into space, upon which we could operate, by what power I could not tell.

Zebedee Coltrin Controversy
Had I anything to do with the Negro, I would confine them by strict law to their own species, and put them on a national equalization. (Joseph Smith; TPJS, p. 270) And a year later, January 1844, the Prophet Joseph, as mayor of Nauvoo, fined two Negroes "for attempting to marry white women." (DHC 6:210) The Prophet also explained: . . . that the curse is not yet taken off the sons of Canaan, neither will be until it is affected by as great [203] power as caused it to come; and the people who interfere the least with the purposes of God in this matter, will come under the least condemnation before Him; . . . (Joseph Smith; Mess. Adv. 2:290 DHC 2:438) Here is evidence that the curse is exemplified through "a black skin" and that when that "curse" is removed, then the dark skin will be removed by "as great power as caused it to come." Also, a part of that "curse" was the restriction of the Priesthood. Abraham O. Smoot inquired of the Prophet Joseph Smith-What should be done with the Negroes in the South as I was preaching to them? (Joseph) said I could baptize them by the consent of their masters, but not to confer the Priesthood upon them. (L. John Nuttall Journal, May

Details of this account are available from another source: Brother A. O. Smoot said W. W. Patten, Warren Parrish and Thomas B. Marsh were laboring in the Southern States in 1835 and 1836. There were Negroes who made application for baptism. And the question arose with them whether Negroes were entitled to hold the Priesthood. And by those brethren it was decided they would not confer the Priesthood until they had consulted the Prophet Joseph, and subsequently they communicated with him. His decision, as I understood was, they were not entitled to the Priesthood, nor yet to be baptized without the consent of their masters. In after years when I became acquainted with Joseph myself in the Far West, about the year 1838, I received from Brother Joseph substantially the same instructions. It was on my application to him, what should be done with the Negro in the South, as I was preaching to them. He said I could baptize them by consent of their masters, but not to confer the [204] Priesthood upon them. ("The Church and the Negroid People," as quoted in Mormonism and the Negro, Stewart, p. 11) It has been reported that a Black man by the name of Elijah Abel was ordained to the Priesthood by Zebedee Coltrin on March 3, 1836. John Taylor thought that perhaps Elijah had received the Priesthood before the word of the Lord was fully understood, and that it had been one of the mistakes of early Church history. (See Minutes of the Council of Twelve, June 4, 1879.) The Council Minutes of August 26, 1908, state that "this ordination was declared null and void by the Prophet himself." In 1879 Zebedee Coltrin related to a small group of Priesthood leaders that Brother Joseph had told him in 1834 that "the Spirit of the Lord saith the Negro has no right nor cannot hold the Priesthood." (Nuttall Journal 1:293) The Salt Lake Tribune reported in an October 26, 1970, article, "The Prophet Joseph Smith was commanded by God to withdraw the Priesthood from Elijah Abel, and to revoke the ordinations." So even though Elijah had only a very small percentage of Negro blood, he was still not supposed to have the Priesthood. He did go on an LDS mission in 1883, but there is no record of his performing any Priesthood ordinance work. Brigham Young made some very forceful statements concerning the status of the Black race and the Priesthood: We know there is a portion of inhabitants of the earth who dwell in Asia that are Negroes, and said to be Jews. The blood of Judah has not only mingled [205] almost with all nations, but also with the blood of Cain, and they have mingled their seeds together. These Negro Jews may keep up all the outer ordinances of the Jewish religion; they may have their sacrifices, and they may perform all the religious ceremonies any people on earth could perform, but let me tell you, that the day they consented to mingle their seed with Canaan, the priesthood was taken away from Judah, and that portion of Judah's seed will never get any rule, or blessings of the priesthood until Cain gets it. Let this Church which is called the kingdom of God on the earth; we will summons the first presidency, the twelve, the high counsel, the bishopric, and all the elders of Israel, suppose we summons them to appear here, and here declare that it is right to mingle our seed, with the Black race of Cain, that they shall come in with us and be partakers with us of all the blessings God has given to us. 222 And did I the Lord God not reveal unto
my servants, Joseph, Heber, and John that the sons of Cain shall not have right unto the Priesthood nor their generations until after that which is known as the millenium among men?
223 Therefor by this key, saith the Lord, the devil may be detected even though he should appear unto thee as an angel of light.
224 And how much less, saith the Lord, are your Presidencies than an angel of light?
225 And how much less are they than Brigham, Heber and John Taylor?
226 Yea, thus saith the Lord, think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am come not to destroy, but to fulfill.
227 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall not pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
228 Yea, thus saith the Lord, have all things been fulfilled?
229 Behold I say unto you, nay.
230 for has the millenium, even the thousand years of peace, hath it passed, or hath it been fulfilled?
231 I the Lord thy God, who maketh the heavens and the earth and set them in their proper frame and orbits say unto you, O man, nay.
232 Hath the earth received her resurrection and her final reward?
233 I say unto thee, O man, who walketh about in darkness at noon-day, nay.
234 Have all the sons and daughters of Adam received of the blessings which shall be theirs?

236 And it is not until all these things, even that which hath been spoken by the mouths of my servants the prophets be fulfilled that the Sons of Cain, the first murderer, shall receive of the blessings of the Priesthood of the Son of God, and then they shall be resurrected to receive of that which hath been appointed unto them from before the foundation of the world.
237 For the blood of righteous Abel did cry up
unto me, even in these things.
238 And it is because of unbelief that this great wickedness hath come among you, even at this time.
239 Whosoever shall therefor break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: But whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

241 For the keys, even of the Kingdom of God have been taken, even from them, and given unto him who shall do my will, and believed in my words and my works from before the foundation of the world, saith the Lord God of Israel, even unto my servant have they been given, that he may prove unto you, O man, that I the Lord thy God am the same, yesterday, today, and forever.
242 For, saith the Lord, there is no agency except their own wicked hearts of unbelief, in your prophets at all, but they, even they, are as wood and stone.
243 Therefor it is, O Israel, that for this idolotry, that ye shall be cut off from under the heavens, if it so be that ye continue on in the stubborness and rebellion of your hearts.
244 Therefore mock not, for all shall be consumed at that day, and he who fights against Zion shall be damned and burned.
245 Therefor beware that ye raise not your heel against mine annointed, and judge no longer after appearances, for do I not cover the heavens with sackcloth and make the rivers to dry up that the fish stink, that ye may know of my power?
246 And I will prove them and see who is acquainted with my voice.
247 For my voice is my spirit.
248 And whoso hearkeneth unto the voice of my spirit, these are they who inherit Celestial glory with me, saith the Lord.
249 And all those who are not acquainted with my voice are not of me.
250 And I will prove them, saith the Lord, and I will prove them, whether they shall be obedient unto whatsoever I shall command them.
251 And how shall I command except by my voice, saith the Lord?
252 And again I say that my voice is my Spirit.
253 Therefor, whosoever is unacquainted with my spirit, how shall they obtain the knowledge wherein that they may know how that they should act according to my will, or as is commonly spoken of, work?
254 For if they be not acquainted with my voice, then their works are not according to the commandments given through the power of my voice, and every man shall be judged according to his works, that thereby they will be accounted of, for their thoughts, their hearts, and their outward acts of the flesh, and from these things, they shall be given their respective opportunities and blessings and cursings in the eternities to come.
255 And wo be unto the disobedient, for where I am, there they cannot come, saith the Lord.
256 Therefor give heed concerning yourselves, for even so, will I judge you when you shall come into the presence of mine annointed to be evaluated and judged for the deeds of the flesh, whether in the heart or manifested outwardly.
257 Thereby, O ye hypocrits, and liars, ye shall be found out.
258 Therefor, Wo!
259 Wo! be unto those who are found to be thus, for shall they escape my awful wrath in that day, saith the Lord?
260 Nay, but they shall be destroyed, saith the Lord, that their esteeming of sacred things as a thing of naught, shall no more come up unto me as the abominations of the past which abominations caused mine anger to be kindled against the inhabitants of the whole earth.

21 I saw another, who seemed to be a very high military officer who arose and said: "I will go down to yonder earth and surely I will bring all your children back to you so none of them shall be lost.
22 "The plan of the first was accepted as being the only sure plan for an exaltation.
23 The plan of the second was rejected with great kindness; but the second was not satisfied; and while the first stood in great humility by the side of the Father, the second with many who stood in with him, went about among the Heavenly hosts to advocate the plan, that was put forth as the rights of the second.
24 This one was Lucifer, a son of the morning, for many had been with the Father for countless ages, and learned their lessons well, and he had been no dull scholar.
25 Finally Lucifer openly rebelled against the Father and the Son, and six other mighty ones who stood faithful with them and declared, "I will have it my way.
26 " I saw the faithful ones gather around the Father and the Son, and Lucifer's workers gathered around him, when one of the notable ones, who was called Michael, arose and said, "We will decide the contest.
27 " It seemed that a platform was extended into space, upon which we could operate, by what power I could not tell.
28 We who were faithful to the Father and the Son, had a white star upon us, and the others chose a red star; about one third of the males and females would not accept of either star, but withdrew from the conflict, the females taking the males by the arm, said, "Come, let us not take part with either side.

Zebedee Coltrin Controversy
Had I anything to do with the Negro, I would confine them by strict law to their own species, and put them on a national equalization. (Joseph Smith; TPJS, p. 270) And a year later, January 1844, the Prophet Joseph, as mayor of Nauvoo, fined two Negroes "for attempting to marry white women." (DHC 6:210) The Prophet also explained: . . . that the curse is not yet taken off the sons of Canaan, neither will be until it is affected by as great [203] power as caused it to come; and the people who interfere the least with the purposes of God in this matter, will come under the least condemnation before Him; . . . (Joseph Smith; Mess. Adv. 2:290 DHC 2:438) Here is evidence that the curse is exemplified through "a black skin" and that when that "curse" is removed, then the dark skin will be removed by "as great power as caused it to come." Also, a part of that "curse" was the restriction of the Priesthood. Abraham O. Smoot inquired of the Prophet Joseph Smith-What should be done with the Negroes in the South as I was preaching to them? Details of this account are available from another source: Brother A. O. Smoot said W. W. Patten, Warren Parrish and Thomas B. Marsh were laboring in the Southern States in 1835 and 1836. There were Negroes who made application for baptism. And the question arose with them whether Negroes were entitled to hold the Priesthood. And by those brethren it was decided they would not confer the Priesthood until they had consulted the Prophet Joseph, and subsequently they communicated with him. His decision, as I understood was, they were not entitled to the Priesthood, nor yet to be baptized without the consent of their masters. In after years when I became acquainted with Joseph myself in the Far West, about the year 1838, I received from Brother Joseph substantially the same instructions. It was on my application to him, what should be done with the Negro in the South, as I was preaching to them. He said I could baptize them by consent of their masters, but not to confer the [204] Priesthood upon them. ("The Church and the Negroid People," as quoted in Mormonism and the Negro, Stewart, p. 11) It has been reported that a Black man by the name of Elijah Abel was ordained to the Priesthood by Zebedee Coltrin on March 3, 1836. John Taylor thought that perhaps Elijah had received the Priesthood before the word of the Lord was fully understood, and that it had been one of the mistakes of early Church history. (See Minutes of the Council of Twelve, June 4, 1879.) The Council Minutes of August 26, 1908, state that "this ordination was declared null and void by the Prophet himself." In 1879 Zebedee Coltrin related to a small group of Priesthood leaders that Brother Joseph had told him in 1834 that "the Spirit of the Lord saith the Negro has no right nor cannot hold the Priesthood." (Nuttall Journal 1:293) The Salt Lake Tribune reported in an October 26, 1970, article, "The Prophet Joseph Smith was commanded by God to withdraw the Priesthood from Elijah Abel, and to revoke the ordinations." So even though Elijah had only a very small percentage of Negro blood, he was still not supposed to have the Priesthood. He did go on an LDS mission in 1883, but there is no record of his performing any Priesthood ordinance work. Brigham Young made some very forceful statements concerning the status of the Black race and the Priesthood: We know there is a portion of inhabitants of the earth who dwell in Asia that are Negroes, and said to be Jews. The blood of Judah has not only mingled [205] almost with all nations, but also with the blood of Cain, and they have mingled their seeds together. These Negro Jews may keep up all the outer ordinances of the Jewish religion; they may have their sacrifices, and they may perform all the religious ceremonies any people on earth could perform, but let me tell you, that the day they consented to mingle their seed with Canaan, the priesthood was taken away from Judah, and that portion of Judah's seed will never get any rule, or blessings of the priesthood until Cain gets it. Let this Church which is called the kingdom of God on the earth; we will summons the first presidency, the twelve, the high counsel, the bishopric, and all the elders of Israel, suppose we summons them to appear here, and here declare that it is right to mingle our seed, with the Black race of Cain, that they shall come in with us and be partakers with us of all the blessings God has given to us.
