Did the Ancients Believe the Earth is Flat?

Did the Ancients Believe Earth Flat?

Van Hale, in a discussion with an antichrist caller, made his usual assertion that the ancients believed the earth was flat!  This is all calculated to throw doubt upon the testimony contained in the Scriptures and is a strategy of the devil to get the latter-day Saints to let go of the iron rod. Art Bulla called in and accused them openly of heresy, stating that latter-day revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith plainly indicates the ancients understood astronomy very well. And that if it was revealed to Columbus that the Earth was round through the agency of the Holy Ghost as the book of Mormon states concerning Columbus that God could plainly and did plainly reveal these things unto the ancient such as Abraham and Moses contained in the testimony given in the Pearl of Great Price:

 29 And he beheld many lands; and each land was called earth, and there were inhabitants on the face thereof. (Moses  1:29-31)

 30 And it came to pass that Moses called upon God, saying: Tell me, I pray thee, why these things are so, and by what thou madest them? (Moses  1:29-31)

 1 AND I, Abraham, had the Urim and Thummim, which the Lord my God had given unto me, in Ur of the Chaldees;

 2 And I saw the stars, that they were very great, and that one of them was nearest unto the throne of God; and there were many great ones which were near unto it;  (Abr  3:1-2)

We are supposed to believe that the ancients believed the earth was flat because a confessed Mormon says it is so?  This confessed Mormon is therefore proven to be merely a heretic (antichrist) and a liar!  By their fruits ye shall know them.

·         10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. (New Testament | Galatians 1:10 - 12)
